Gay Nong Khai: Springboard to gay Laos

Report from an interesting posting called gay Nong Khai

By gay Suzy Size who knows everything about gay Nong Khai

Nong Khai might not be on the short list of all gay travellers to gay Thailand, but it should be on that of those who would like to visit gay Laos. Gay Nong Khai is the ideal springboard to gay Laos, it can easily be reached by all kinds of transport. There are many flights (about an hour from gay Bangkok) available to gay Udon Thani, which is just 54 kilometres away from this pearl on the famous Mekhong river. (Buses take you from the airport to gay Nong Khai.) You can take a train (day or night) which takes about 12 hours from Bangkok; or you ride a bus, many a day leave Morchit Bus station. Going through gay Nong Khai is much cheaper than flying to the Laotian Capital gay Vientiane directly and much more fun too. The gay night life of Nong Khai may not be thriving compared with gay Bangkok, but you still can enjoy two or three nights without getting bored to death.

A must is Thasadej, that is the so called Indochina Market. In stalls along the mighty river Mekhong, cheap consumer products from gay China, gay Laos or gay Vietnam are on sale. The formerly open market is now roofed, which is a blessing in the rainy season, but a bit dark during the day in gay Nong Khai.

Try the grilled fresh caught fish with the salt crust (pla pao) in one of the local restaurants along the river bank of gay Nong Khai. Enjoy the view and the reduced haste of the local people that imitates the slow flow of the brownish river. Do not expect super swift service, super swift action in any sense, people here are in general a bit slower than in Bangkok, a bit more relaxed and less hectic. Such is life in gay and not so gay Nong Khai.

Towards the river there is construction under way. Nobody seems to know what exactly is planned; it looks as if there is a new river walkway or some sort of gigantic terrace under construction. The thing is massive and gay Suzy Size only hopes they will not destroy that unique place right in the centre of gay and not so gay Nong Khai.

If you like the view air conditioned then opt for the Panorama Restaurant (just besides the former boarder post) which is owned and managed by Khun Noporn who was born in the wrong (male) body, a mistake by nature that has been rectified. She is probably the most famous and influential person of gay Nong Khai.

Khun Noporn (whose forefathers founded gay and straight Nong Khai) also owns the Pantawee Hotel in the centre of town, just walking distance to the river. A great variety of rooms are available (inexpensive ones) and some (a bit more pricy) with their own high speed internet terminal and access. A swimming pool has recently been added. If you feel lost in Nong Khai and have no idea where to go at night, ask gay Mr. John the manager of the hotel for suggestions about the gay night life of Nong Khai. He will give you precious advice about the absolutely newest trends in that not-so-crowded and fast changing city. The terrace restaurant of the Pantawee Hotel is an excellent meeting place in the late afternoon or early evening (and late at night, open 24 hours). You might see an interesting gay Nong Khai male across the street from this terrace, just invite him for a beer or two and find out about the possible options. Who knows, he might turn out to be your final prince charming, a gift of gay Nong Khai.

Have a coffee and maybe a cake at the "Go Thasadej" Cafe. It is located in the right hand Soi approaching Thasdej in river flow, just before the new roof starts. They used to have a rainbow in their logo before, but maybe because they have a majority of straight customers they have given up on it. The gay German owner and his gay Thai partner might be able to tell you this and that about gay Nong Khai. Or you try a haircut since many hair stylists Thailand wide and worldwide seem to have an eye for male beauty, are gay in other words. There is one just besides "Go Thasadej", I tried "Remember Barber", almost at the end of Prajak Road (in direction or river flow).

At "Remember Barber" (the name is just striking and will always be remembered) I was beautified (relatively) by a certain Mr. Aeh, which is a very common name amongst (gay and not gay) Thai hair artists. He was 28 years of age and lives with his "fan". After this revelation gay Suzy Size decided NOT to interfere or impose herself and possibly hamper the pure love of some innocent seeming gay country kids in Nong Khai. The haircut was only 50 Baht and Mr. Aeh, who did a fine job, was generously tipped by gay Suzy Size who normally is rather stingy.

Even gay cruising is possible in Nong Khai nowadays! The best chances will be found at Big Jiang, where Lotus opened a superstore some years ago. The place is air conditioned and that makes cruising here an option for the very first time in the history of mankind. You must know a proven fact, nowhere in the world do the males (gay and not gay) suffer more from heat than in Nong Khai! For this reason they would not go cruising around the railway station in the heat, but at Big Jiang you might meet a knowing eye or be smiled at. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are best for that pastime in gay Nong Khai. Or try one of the discos at night. There you will always see an interesting and interested gay group in the crowd. At the moment, the disco of the Thip Hotel is THE place to go, but that might change as time goes by and cannot be guaranteed for eternity.

And if all your attempts have failed and you are still alone in fair and gay Nong Khai City, go to "My Bar" in Meechai Road (near Sawasdee Guest House, a little bit further down on the other side of the street). Gay Mr. Kai has about ten gay hosts and some massage rooms. This first openly gay bar of Nong Khai is open till very late (or very early).

Next day (if you have not decided to stay in gay Nong Khai for ever) you might cross the first bridge over the Mekong, which was opened 1996. Visas for the wonders of gay Laos are available on arrival for 30 $ US, don't forget a passport picture when leaving gay Thailand through Nong Khai.
